It was not a great weekend for the Longhorns. Texas lost to Georgia on Saturday, getting knocked off the top perch in college football, and some Longhorns fans acted like idiots during the process.

After an admittedly terrible pass interference call against Texas, angry Longhorns fans began throwing bottles and trash onto the field. This happened because they were presumably misplacing their rage at its deserved target: Quarterback Quinn Ewers, who … did not play great.

The idiocy resulted in a delay, after which the call was overturned. Which was good for the Horns, but the ends didn’t justify the means. (Texas ended up losing the game, but its fans also looked like dicks in the process.)

Enter the official Longhorns “Minister of Culture” Matthew McConaughey. He stepped in on X to say that the stunt was “not cool” and a total “bogey move.”

“Yeah that call was BS, but we’re better than that,” he said, which was frankly pretty reasonable.

“Longhorn Nation knows how to show up, show out like no other, and still keep our class,” our cool dad said with a finger wag. “So, going forward, let’s clean that kind of BS up and leave that behind us for good. We have to shake hands on that.”

But Texas didn’t just get away with a stern talking-to. The SEC announced on Sunday that Texas will be fined $250,000 for the game interruption, citing violations of its sportsmanship, game management, and alcohol availability policies.

The conference also mandated that Texas must do everything in its power to identify the fans responsible for throwing crap on the field. Basically, if you threw a bottle, you’ll be banned from all Texas events during the 2024-25 athletic season.

“The throwing of debris and resulting interruption of play that took place Saturday night cannot be part of any SEC event,” commissioner Greg Sankey said.

The SEC added that they are not suspending alcohol sales privileges for Texas but it “reserves the right to do so.”

So, in summation, don’t throw stuff. Also, don’t start pregaming at 8 a.m. — or they’ll take away our beer.
