A Dallas Cowboys’ cornerback confronted a scrum of reporters on Sunday after a WFAA journalist, during the game against the 49ers, tweeted: “What is Trevon Diggs doing on this play?”
Critical — though innocuous — as that was, Diggs’ saw it after the team’s 30-24 loss and went to find WFAA’s Mike Leslie outside the locker room while he was still feeling the sting. Diggs told him on camera: “You don’t know football. You can’t do nothing that I can do. You can’t guard or do nothing. Stay in your lane, buddy.”
Leslie may be a sports reporter, but Diggs certainly isn’t the first athlete to bristle at criticism from the sidelines.
“We can talk about it more,” Leslie replied. “What were you doing?”
“Fucking clown,” Diggs said, still in uniform, as he walked back into the locker room. “We can talk about deez nuts.” (For the unaware, Deez Nuts is a joke that harkens back to Dr. Dre’s 1992 rap album “Chronic,” and in recent years, it has regained popularity.)

Diggs elaborated on the exchange Monday, telling teammate Micah Parsons on his podcast: “Felt like (Leslie) was trying to use my name for clicks. After the game I just happened to see (the post), I clicked on it and saw who it was and I was like, ‘Oh he’s right here. I just saw you.’ So I went up to him and I just spoke how I felt.”

Diggs did not play most of the 2023 season after suffering a torn ACL, and, earlier this season, he was nursing a minor ankle injury.
“Felt like there was a lot of emotions. Just losing, coming out of the game, we’re fresh off the loss. I’m a competitor so you know I wanted to win,” Diggs told Parsons. “I felt like I played my hardest game yesterday. I felt like I did everything I could. I was tackling, setting the edges, just doing everything to help my team win. And for him to try to throw that on my name, it just didn’t sit right with me.”
It’s no secret tempers are high for both Cowboys fans and team staff. Two weeks ago, Jerry Jones threatened to fire a sports radio host who was asking critical questions about the team’s performance. Fans have all but given up on any Super Bowl 2025 dreams.

The Cowboys play the Atlanta Falcons, who are currently first in their division, on Sunday at noon CT.
Luckily, after Diggs’ cooled off, he made amends: The 26-year-old offered some flavored peanuts called “Dee’s Nuts” to Leslie at a Wednesday practice. According to Chron.com, Leslie accepted the gift and embraced Diggs.
“Trevon Diggs and I cleared the air,” Leslie posted on X. “He apologized for the hallway incident, and I apologized for misreading the play—he explained that what I had interpreted as him jogging was in fact him slow-playing a potential cutback from George Kittle.”
