Let us help you navigate the world of state politics by asking for answers from the stars.

Given that the first legislative session in the state of Texas began on February 16, 1864 in Austin, that makes our clown car of a legislature an Aquarius sun!

Aquarius is an air sign, and its traditional planetary rulers are Saturn and Uranus, which creates a balance of stoicism and oddity. (Yep, that sounds about right for the #txlege.) An Aquarius is unpredictable and will always keep you on your toes because they never want to be boxed in as “figured out.” Being misunderstood is painfully addictive for this air sign — and if there’s one thing that’s misunderstood in Texas, it’s the legislature.

We’re predicting 2025 to be a groundbreaking year based on the Lege’s astrological chart, and here’s what this means for you:

Aquarius Sun

Aquarians are intellectual, but they’re also quirky — think of someone who might read a lot and also might believe in some conspiracy theories. If you haven’t read Molly Ivins’ many seminal writings on the Lege, let us remind you. “All anyone needs to enjoy the state legislature is a strong stomach and a complete insensitivity to the needs of the people,” she once wrote. “As long as you don’t think about what that peculiar body should be doing and what it actually is doing to the quality of life in Texas, then it’s all marvelous fun.” Another classic: “As they say around the Texas Legislature, if you can’t drink their whiskey, screw their women, take their money, and vote against ’em anyway, you don’t belong in office.”

Your sun sign describes your ego, personality, and how you self-express. As an Aquarius sun, the legislature has a deep desire to be understood on an individual level. Aquarians are naturally authentic souls, and they don’t care to conform or fit in. Yet, they yearn for acceptance, popularity, and even a little praise for their ability to be such out-of-the-box thinkers. They’re inventive and sometimes can go overboard with their eccentricity. But, that’s what we love about them, even if it’s cringe at times. They’re a walking contradiction.

An Aquarius sun has an altruistic mission in life. They’re natural humanitarians and have their hand in many different social circles because they love people. They value contributing to the “bigger picture.” As an Aquarius sun, the Texas Legislature’s birth chart is going to have a groundbreaking year now that Pluto has officially entered Aquarius. This can look like radical changes within the legislature.

Pluto in Aquarius will take precedence over the next 20 years and will extend its influence in the areas of aerospace, humanitarian efforts, and technological advancements. It also has the potential to inflate egos. Pluto’s responsibility in astrology is to break down structures and allow phobias to rise to the surface so that transformation can occur. Since this is conspiring in the alien-like sign of Aquarius, this combination is both inventive and completely unpredictable. This ensures the 89th Texas legislative session is going to be the talk of all sessions, and it will not be afraid to make bold and unconventional moves. (School vouchers??)

Libra Moon

Libra is the astrological ruler of diplomacy, karma and social justice. It’s so fitting for the Lege’s birth chart to have this placement, and it’s cosmically serendipitous. Sometimes you have to wonder if the government really has astrologers on their team because historical events seem to align so effortlessly with intentional astrological mapping.

A moon sign will indicate a person’s hidden agendas, emotional expressions, and what they need to feel understood. It can also be perceived as their love language. Let’s just say, the Texas Legislature has a love language of acts of service. A typical Libra moon loves to dish out and receive acts of service, since they’re all about balance and harmony when it comes to strengthening their relationships and making others feel nurtured. The Libra eclipses did some reckoning on the Libra moon placement of the Texas Legislature’s birth chart, creating massive upheaval and changes in power when the eclipses occurred in the Spring and Fall of 2024. Now, the moon will be in a calmer temperament as the sun sign in Aquarius will have a 20-year transit from Pluto helping to radicalize politics for Texans. (No, unfortunately we don’t know if it means radical right or left, but I’m sure you can take a wild guess.)

The 89th Session

The first set of eclipses take place in the early months of 2025, so winter will not slip by quietly. Based on its birth chart, the legislature will be undergoing its 179th solar return. A solar return is an astrological term for a birthday.

Based on the chart’s natal Venus in Pisces, there will be a huge emphasis on karmic endings — and letting go of limiting beliefs. Pisces rules the 12th house, which is the house of imprisonment and literal prison. Could there be a big focus on police, jails, and criminal justice in the first half of the year? It’s very likely. (Interestingly enough, this year, legislators are tasked with reviewing spending for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.) Could some politicians face legal troubles or possibly dance on the brink of going to jail? (I mean, Attorney General Ken Paxton is still under FBI probe.) Could there be others? Sure, why not? Anything goes!

As for Texans, understandably, you might feel a need to withdraw and isolate yourself from politics. Be aware, there could be mental overload with the switch from a Biden to a Trump administration, and tricks from Texas politicians could amplify the political circus. It’s normal to feel the need to prioritize your mental health as a way to navigate the year-to-come. Mental health topics could also come up for discussions in the Texan political sphere and as a huge theme as well.

Spring

This is when all the action will take place. (Literally, because March 14 is the last day to file a bill, and this is when things start rolling during a legislative session.) The Aries Solar Eclipse on March 29 activates a conjunction with the natal chart’s Pluto and an opposition with the chart’s natal Libra moon. Yikes! Texans could feel a deep urge to fight against “the powers that be,” and brace yourselves, it could awaken a sense of rage or loss. However, this will be a time where many will feel awakened from the hibernation of the slower months earlier in the year, and there’s an invigorating sense of renewal to “fight the good fight” within the collective consciousness. (So, find community now!)

That solar eclipse is likely to bring unpredictable and dramatic change. You just have to go with the flow during an eclipse and hope you’re prepared to face any potential adversity that comes your way. This is a good time to deepen your spiritual or religious practices.

There could be a lot of talk around religion — or imposing religious approaches — within the political domain. In a social capacity, many folks will feel excited to congregate outside of homes, and there could be an influx in community events or grassroots efforts. This is a good time to connect with like-minded individuals and to center healing work within a community setting.

There could be an influx of public gatherings of the masses in order to move forward social change, and this is a time where organized events can be beneficial and inspiring. If you’re inspired to lead the charge or get involved in a charitable way, March and April are the months to prioritize said personal objectives.
