Not everyone agrees the Dallas Cowboys are “America’s Team,” but can we agree their record-breaking quarterback and certified sweetie, Dak Prescott, is on his way to being the official state girl dad?
Less than a week ago, Prescott inked the NFL’s most expensive contract of all time and bagged a cool $240 million, with $231 million guaranteed. There have been plenty of haters who’ve criticized team owner Jerry Jones for paying his QB so much, but Prescott isn’t listening.
“Nobody’s opinions have ever defined me and they never will,” the lifelong Cowboys fan said in a new “I Am Athlete” podcast interview with his brother Tad Prescott. “Every day that I wake up I have another opportunity to (prove myself right) and if not, I’m gonna be cheating myself, I’m gonna be cheating MJ, cheating my family, cheating anybody that believes in what I believe in. When you (focus on proving yourself right), the noise becomes a joke.”
“MJ” is Prescott’s 6-month-old daughter; she was born Margaret Jane Rose Prescott on February 29. Dak’s mom, who died of cancer while he was playing college ball at Mississippi State University, was also named Margaret.
“Being able to see that face when I wake up, being able to put her to bed at times just puts it all in perspective,” Prescott told his brother. “The money doesn’t mean shit when you see that smile.”
While Prescott didn’t shed a tear on camera, his voice did crack when he talked about being fortunate enough to leave his daughter with generational wealth. Prescott has spoken about how he and his brothers grew up in a mobile home park with their mom in Haughton, Louisiana, about 20 miles from Shreveport.
“I owe so much to the city of Dallas and I want to be able to deliver my end of the deal and bring this city, bring the Jones, bring the Cowboys organization the Super Bowl that’s long overdue,” Prescott said.
The Dallas Cowboys play the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
