The stars at night are big and bright in our Lone Star State, so we are dedicating a special section of our little internet corner to reading them, deciphering them, and finding some patterns deep in the heart of Texas. Every month, Jasmin Alejandrez-Prasad, also known as Esoteric Esa, will serve as our in-house astrologer and psychic. We’ll bring you a monthly reading on notable Texans, along with some pop culture predictions. Let’s be real, Texas is a wild place, so whether you “believe” in astrology or not, isn’t it fun to see if our state’s fate is somehow written in the stars?

Last month, our column accurately predicted Texans Quarterback C.J. Stroud’s continued professional and financial success, University of Texas Quarterback Quinn Ewers’ minor injury, and that Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Dak Prescott would deal with “silly mistakes if he’s not focused on the details.”

For our next entry, we take a look at the tight race between incumbent U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and the Democratic opponent vying for his seat, U.S. Rep. Colin Allred. First, let’s travel back in time to 2016’s astrological map and take a look at where the planets were then.

Do y’all remember what a horrible year 2016 was for Ted Cruz? In case you forgot, he had an unsuccessful presidential run that ended after then-candidate Donald Trump insulted Cruz’s wife and then beat him in the Indiana primary by more than 20 points. At the same time, he was ferociously mocked by “Ted Cruz Is the Zodiac Killer” merch, which raised money for abortion rights. That’s also when his former college roommate began relentlessly insulting him online, at one point tweeting: “I’m starting to feel like the U.S. should pay me reparations for my freshman year.” That mess was partly thanks to the activation of Cruz’s natal chiron (an asteroid in a birth chart that foretells our weakness and wounds), which was literally trumped by an Aries Lunar Eclipse in 2015. That cosmic event created a six-month long energetic timeout for Cruz, and instead, karmically enabled Trump to take the win.

Fast forward eight years, and once again, an eclipse is hitting Cruz’s natal chiron, reopening the wound for a political defeat. Is this 2016 all over again for him? Very likely, byway of the misfortunate Aries Solar Eclipse that happened in April.

And that’s not the end of it. Nodes — known as the North Node and South Node of the moon — are points that represent fate, purpose, destiny, and karma. This year, the North Node is in Aries and the South Node is in Libra. The transiting South Node is close to Cruz’s Libra moon, amplifying its energy. Basically, this means his chart’s relationship to his nodes further indicate a Cruz loss. And maybe a painful one: According to the stars, Cruz will be facing some karma through 2025. The seeds he’s sown are now blooming — and toxic seeds bear toxic fruit. Hidden secrets will be revealed against him between now and Sept. 21, 2025, and he might have to walk back some past mistakes — especially if he failed to take ownership of them. (The Cancun trip when Texans were freezing to death? He did blame that on his kids.) Additionally, the upcoming Scorpio new moon on Nov. 1 will center the dialogue around reproductive rights, meaning his anti-choice stance could be, in the end, what topples his campaign.

As for Colin Allred, the Democratic representative is apparently receiving a leg up from the universe. Allred is favored by the stars to beat Cruz thanks to the upcoming Jupiter retrograde in Gemini that will be protected by his natal Venus in Gemini. Jupiter is the planet of expansion and prosperity, so it brings big blessings when it transits a sign in your birth chart, especially when a star-player planet is situated there. A Jupiter retrograde transit brings things back around for us to revisit and receive — especially when it comes to making wishes come true.

Although Venus is the planet of love and money, Venus also represents war and the inner warrior, and Venus plays nice with Jupiter when they connect. And it’s not just that there are some bad things happening for Cruz while Allred receives benefits. It’s that the same Aries Eclipse lowering Cruz’s chance in the race is actually blessing Allred, who is an Aries sun sign. This is a great year for people with Aries placements in their birth charts when it comes to politics, and generally speaking, it’s their year to level up and receive success.

Lastly, both Allred and Cruz hold a unique position in their birth charts known as the star of Spica. This is a star of military honors and usually adds prestige in positions of authority. Cruz holds a moon-Spica conjunction. Allred holds a Pluto-Spica conjunction. In astrology, the moon is passive and is dominated by Pluto — that could translate to Allred dominating Cruz’s weakened moon position at the polls. Or at least giving him an unexpected run for his money.

Using the stars to tell the future isn’t an exact science — but counting votes is. Really want to know what’s going to happen? Register to vote by Oct. 7, then show up to cast your ballot on Nov. 5.
